Family And Friends Can Mean A Lot For Your Business… Keep Them Informed And Involved

When it comes to your marketing efforts, don't forget your friends and family. I don't mean that you should mail a brochure to your uncle every other week or put your daughter-in-law on your fax broadcast list. Or that you should invite your best friend to every business seminar you conduct, or have your spouse register for your company's promotional giveaway. (Bad move.)

No, you should confine your heavy duty marketing to your prospects and target market.

But it doesn't hurt if you talk shop around the dinner table. Much like your employees who can be an extra sales force and spread the word about your company if you keep them in the know, friends and family can help you open doors to new prospects and markets.

So keep them informed. Invite them to your company's open house. Let them get to know your employees and customers. The more they know and like about your company, its people and its operations, the easier it is for them to talk positively and with confidence about your business.

Keep them involved, too. Ask them to proofread your web site. (You'd be surprised how much they would love to help you if you'd just ask.) Have them look over your new brochure or an occasional fax broadcast while it's still in production. Not only will you get a little different perspective, you'll have an extra pair of eyes to catch spelling or grammatical errors. Besides that, they'll learn that much more about what you and your company do.

All this makes sense from a purely business perspective because it will increase your bottom line with little or no outlay on your part.

Beyond that, though, there is also a bit of benefit from a personal perspective. When your company reaches a particular milestone or closes that long-sought-after deal, you'll be able to crow about it to people who understand what you're talking about, and who can honestly share in your joy. And that makes the achievement that much sweeter.
